Song Sparrow (top) & Dark-eyed Junco by R. Snyder – sprinkling egg shells – by W. Snyder

Yes, eggshells – a tasty calcium treat for your feathered friends; especially important in nesting season but enjoyed year round by a variety of birds.

Just wash the shells well in hot soapy water and let air dry.  Break them up in small pieces and sprinkle in  a safe place (on bushes, tree branches, retaining walls, stumps) where the birds can chow down without the worry of being ambushed by a cat.
